Wang Qi, a brigade commander of the 11th Composite Brigade of the New Army in early 20th century was the owner of the house, which was built in the early Qing Dynasty. It is composed of two adjoining buildings with an area of 2,225square meters. Exquisitely designed and delicately crafted, this house is a fine example of quintessential ancient architecture. The garden inside is ingeniously designed with rockeries and a number of lifelike statues of Meitreya and Goddess of Mercy made of limestone, hemp fabrics, paper pulp and iron wires. This adds some unique religious atmosphere to the residence, and makes it an excellent example of private landscape in the area of Three Lanes and Seven Streets.
The house was announced as an official protection site by Fuzhou Municipal Government in 1991.
