Former residence of Chen Yan

    The wooden construction was built in the Qing Dynasty. Facing south, the architecture has four fire-and-wind-proof walls and is divided into four sections with an area of 625square meters. It was announced as an official protection site by Fuzhou Municipal Government in 1991.

    Chen Yan (1856-1937), born in Houguan County (present Fuzhou), had an immense knowledge of ancient classics, history and education, and in particular, he was extremely skilled in poetry. As the leading poet of “Tong Guang” School of Fujian Province, he had great influence on modern poetry.
