Residence of You Family in Wen Ru Fang (Scholar Confucians Lane)

The construction of the house began in the Ming Dynasty. Since then the house had been renovated many times during the reign of Emperor Guang Xu of the Qing Dynasty and in the early Republic era. It covers an area of 2,633㎡. Su Tingyu, Acting Governor General of Sichun Province, once lived here. Later it became the residence of You Xianmo in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic era. Legend has it that You family was the descendent of You Xitang, a well-known poet and writer of the early Qing Dynasty. You family initially housed in Minhou and lived on silkworms raising and silk reeling, then moved to Anmin Street and opened “Heng Sheng” silk store. Thanks to his business talent, You Xianmo became a merchant tycoon in Fuzhou when the family business was handed down to him.

The building was designated as one of the 6th group of cultural relics under provincial protection in 2005.
